What is Hedgehog Street?
Hedgehog Street is a joint campaign run by the People’s Trust for Endangered Species and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS), concerning people, gardens and wildlife.
- People love gardens (especially British people).
- People love hedgehogs.
- Hedgehogs love gardens – they need to access to lots of gardens to survive.
Hedgehogs need connected neighbourhoods of gardens, rich in insects and free from hazards.
Hedgehogs are currently in severe decline in the UK, with around a third lost since the millennium. That is why we started the campaign in 2011 as a means of engaging British people about the wildlife that depends on them and their gardens.
Hedgehog Street is about joining up the dots. It’s about empowering people with an understanding of hedgehogs, why they are declining, and how easy it is to help them.
This website has everything you need to ensure that hedgehogs remain as much a part of the British countryside as tea and scones.
