Well done getting a hog house. Lots of leaves sound brilliant – that’s what they like to make their nests. Their favourites are medium sized ones.
It’s difficult to know what to advise re. siting – not knowing the garden – but generally a wild area where they won’t be disturbed too much sounds good. Maybe you could bury the box in the leaves a bit?
But don’t worry if you don’t get a tenant immediately. Sometimes they like to wait until a box becomes ‘part of the landscape’. But you might be lucky – fingers crossed, indeed!
