Hi Jralph7,
Great to hear you’ve sighted a hedgehog in your garden and can check activity with a camera. For the hedgehogs that visit my garden, the feeding hut visits range from a few minutes to 45 (!) minutes with a few visits per night. The later in the night, the shorter the visits (probably because the food has mostly been eaten by then!). However, I have seen instances of snacking behaviour (short visits 5 or 6 times a night) which last for up to a week. They do like a drink! Now it has turned much colder, there are nights when no food is taken – quite a few missed nights lately. Last winter, there were only two nights on which food wasn’t taken. If no food is being taken, I reduce the amount to about 10g of kibble and check, just before I go to bed, to see if that’s gone in which case I put out more. In frosty weather, I tack an insulating sheet to the underside of the feeding hut roof – seems to stop the bowls of water freezing!
Best wishes to you and your hedgehogs,
Sam
