Hello we have had a hedgehog visiting for the last few nights (not 100% sure if it’s the same one) who makes a strange noise, it’s a cross between a soft grunting and sounding like a snotty nose, definitely haven’t heard any coughing but wondering if it is ok or not. I weighed it last night and it was 456g, we are in Somerset and the weather is currently quite mild, couple of nights ago we had a frost though- hedgehog visited then too, it seems ok in itself and quite lively, we put out some brambles meat and it was happily eating it.

    Really?

Yes, which bit were you unsure about?

I am no expert at all, but noisy breathing I believe can indicate respiratory trouble like lungworm.
Hopefully someone with more experience can advice you. But it is good he/she is coming at night to feed and is a good weight.

    Hi

Does it make this noise just when it’s arriving – almost like announcing itself? If not and it’s making it all the time then you need to catch it and get it to your nearest carer to check out

It wasn’t all the time, it was making the noise when it was walking up then a bit when it was eating but not much. I tried googling but couldn’t find any info, since it seemed ok and was tucking into some meat we left it to it. We have noticed with 2 small hogs we’ve rescued (one was out during the day and one was 340g) that had intestinal worms, they weren’t very interested in eating meat.
