INJURED HOGS

I have a nesting box and a feeding station in my back garden, they’ve been used regularly, although the nesting box has just been used for ‘resting’.
Two weeks ago I noticed a visiting hedgehog seemed to have difficulty walking. I took it to the vets and found one of it’s back legs was partly severed. The vet put it to sleep.
Now I’ve seen another very young hoglet which also seems to be struggling walking but I can’t uncurl it to take a good look. It’s eating and drinking and getting around. I don’t want it to suffer the same fate.
Is there a sanctuary which would check for infections and then house it?
My garden is not secure enough for me to keep it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Aneleh, SheffieldPlease take it to your vet. If it’s badly injured it needs treatment even if that is being put to sleep.
You can also try your local wildlife hospital or carer – number is on this page to get a list of them
Note that if it’s a serious injury the carer will take it to the vetI know people don’t like the idea of putting a hog to sleep but sometimes it seriously is in their best interests. Very few people will house a hog permanently as it’s not in the best interests of them. They are a wild animal
The best interests to the animal are to get it help as fast as possible – otherwise it’s just in pain
