Hi fellow hedgehog carers, I am in the process of setting up two hedgehog houses in a sheltered area in my garden. The houses are for resting/nesting not feeding stations. Can I place the houses next to each other or do they need to be a distance apart? If apart, what sort of distance does it need to be? Thank you in advance. Elaine Brown

My view is two separate boxes can be placed side by side. I don’t find hedgehogs anti social apart from a female with young maybe.

I have 7 hedgehogs overwintering in my garden before release when the night time temperature increases and they all share one box. It is big though around 6 ft X 3 ft.

PS most people use straw or hay in boxes I use dried leaves such as oak or beech.
