    Hi all
I’m a big new to this
I put a hedgehog house in my garden towards the end of last year. Over the last few days I’ve noted the straw has been moved and some food I put out had gone.
Today on checking the house I opened the lid very quietly and carefully and lo and behold there was a hedgehog fast asleep in the house!
Please if anyone can give advice and tips on keeping it safe and using the home any information will be grateful

Congratulations – I absolutely know the feeling of that realisation that one has chosen to share the same space as you.
Personally, I have bought a trail camera, tripod and mains adaptor from Amazon and I set it up, varying the position of the camera, with motion detector set. I put out some pedigree dog food in gravy (They love it). The morning routine is now to make my coffee, take out the memory stick and review the footage from the previous night.
Over the last couple of months I have seen at least 3 different hogs, got to understand there routines and timings. Have seen hilarious interaction as they squabble over food and push the other away. I have also seen a young badger make an appearance as well as all of the neighbourhood cats wandeing through. They show no interest in either the hogs or the food.
It becomes addictive and the source of much entertainment ……

Hi Saxylady, I too, only just yesterday discovered a hedgehog yesterday fast asleep in my hog house, absolutely made up with that, lol.Checked again this morning, and yes,it was there fast asleep once more.Saw a rather swollen, and slow moving hog, leaving one of my feeding stations last night, and I’m convinced, its a pregnant female, and hoping thats the hog in the Hog house, fingers crossed, lol.Cheers from Shada, another newbie to HH Street.😁👌.

    Hi Saxylady

Don’t be too upset if the hog moves on after a day or two. In the Summer, males especially, are inclined to fairly often change where they spend the day – but may be back later in the season. If the hog vacates the house you may want to check for ticks – they often leave some behind!
