Hi all, newbie post,(Shada) lol, finally got some Trail cameras, not high end, but decent enough for the job. Caught my 1st Hedgehog visitor in April, and have had intermittent camera recordings since, the last being the 23rd June 2025. Usually feed once or twice, then a good drink of clean, freshly put out water, before exiting via a hole I created in a boundary wall.No visitors since?,and wondering if it’s been a female, who has maybe now had a litter of Hoglets???. Something to look forward to, (fingers crossed๐ค๐๐๐)Was having a problem with local cats getting into the feeding station, and clearing the food dish, but have now resolved the issue with a re-designed feeding station, with double baffle walls, and a lower ceiling, worked a treat, no more cats getting in. I am missing not seeing the Hedgehog/s?, not sure it it’s been more than 1 that’s been visiting, but was nice to see the feeding station finally getting used.Cheers all, happy Hog sightings๐๐๐, Shada.
13th July 2025 at 12:21 pm #49155Hi Shada
I’m also new to the forum. I had a similar problem with cats actually flattening themselves to get into the feeding station. I looked after a friends dog for a few days and the cat sightings stopped completely.
I have created sort of maze entrances to my 3 feeding stations around front and back gardens and have bought very cheap ยฃ20 alert cameras. I’ve been delighted to catch a few hedgehogs feeding and drinking. I was worried about a large hedgehog 5 weeks ago and sent messages videos and pictures to the local hedgehog rescue woman. She was coming out very early and falling asleep in the feed and looked quite bloated. Turns out she gave birth and I now see her and her 3 hoglets using the feeding station and foraging in the gardens. She took them out of the garden where I’ve made 2 hedgehog holes in fences for 2 hours last night! I think they may well move on as they moved where they slept 2 nights ago so she is clearly getting them used to adapting. Hoping they will continue to come back to feed as I will also miss them!19th July 2025 at 6:15 pm #49199Hi Safeena, that’s Brilliant!!,glad you sorted out your feeding station problem with the cats.I now have no problem with them, since creating 2 baffle walls inside the feeding station, I also place a large brick/ block about 5 inches from entrance, which stops the cats even trying, lol.Lucky you seeing mummy hog and hoglets, well done on getting help with her๐.Ihave regular visits from 1 male, and possibly a 2nd hog, also have 2 trail cameras set up nightly,to video them๐.Keep up the good work, hedgehogs need all the help we can give them,cheers,Shada.๐๐๐ป
19th July 2025 at 6:22 pm #49200Please keep posting your photos, videos, would love to see your set up Safeena.I have built 2 hedgehog houses, hoping they might use them to hibernate come winter.Have also just today, set up a 2nd feeding station,as I’m almost sure, there is another hog visiting my garden, the more the merrier, lol.cheers again Safeena,Shada.๐
24th July 2025 at 1:47 pm #49272Checked my Hog house yesterday (23rd July) and was pleasantly surprised to find a sleeping hog, yessss!,lol. On checking this morning,it had returned, and was snoozing away, and I took a quick photo before leaving it to its sleep.Saw a hog last night leaving my feeding station, walking very slowly, and looked rather bloated/ heavy ?, hoping its a pregnant female, and is the one thats using the hog house, fingers crossed, lol. Have had many hog visitors the last few nights, and I’m sure there are more than the male and female I have recorded over a few weeks.Cheers All๐๐๐ป
