What should I do now?

I haven’t seen the usual hedgehog in my garden for months and food has not been disappearing either, but upon preparing to give my hedgehog house a clean today (just using hot water} ready for winter, I started to remove the hay/straw and saw a hedgehog in the house. I didn’t probe any further but couldn’t see it breathing. I’m worried it might be dead.
I’m not sure what to do now – should I just leave it and hope that the hedgehog is still alive? should I put some food inside the hedgehog house and/or just outside it? should I try cleaning it another day and see if the hedgehog is still there? I’m not hopeful!
Put a stick across the entrance to the house. If it’s pushed out in the morning then the hog is up and about
If the hog is dead it will start to smell at which point you can remove it
Don’t put food close to or in the house as that is likely to attract predators
Hope this helps
Thanks Stef. Fingers crossed.
Did the stick get moved out? As you initially disturbed it it would have likely got up
