Vote for hedgehogs to feature on banknotes
3rd June 2026

The Bank of England has launched a public consultation to decide which UK wildlife will feature on the new series of banknotes – and hedgehogs are on the shortlist!
A panel of experts have drawn up a shortlist of eighteen native UK animals, including mammals, insects, birds, fish and amphibians, and now they are asking the public to vote for their favourites.
The bank will make a final decision after the consultation closes, and the four winners will be used as the main image on the £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes.
The list is grouped into three categories, with hedgehogs being placed in the mammals category. You can vote for up to two animals in each category.
We would love to see hedgehogs featured in such a prominent way, keeping them at the forefront of people’s minds and helping to strengthen our conservation message.
So what are you waiting for? You have until the 3rd July to place your vote and put a hedgehog in people’s purses.
