A Day in the Office With…

Emily Wilson
Hedgehog Officer for Hedgehog Street
I have the honour of being the ‘Hedgehog Officer’ for Hedgehog Street, a partnership project between the People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS).
I help to run the Hedgehog Street campaign, which involves a huge variety of activities including; supporting research into hedgehogs and their decline, working with developers and planners to tackle habitat issues and plan for hedgehogs in new builds, lobbying parliamentarians to support hedgehog conservation, designing training courses to help land managers conserve hedgehogs, as well as giving talks and interviews to the press to help spread awareness. I also spend a lot of time talking to our dedicated hedgehog champions and sharing knowledge about how we can best help hedgehogs in the garden.
Hedgehogs are wonderful – I love their gentle nature. There is still so much to learn about these night time visitors and this piques my natural curiosity, but one thing I do hear a lot is how people are seeing less of them. So I want to do whatever I can to help the plight of this popular British species and Hedgehog Street is the perfect campaign to do that.
This website provides a community for Hedgehog Champions to share sightings, photos and stories. It also has loads of really useful information, tips and advice for encouraging hedgehogs into your garden.
If you have a question about hedgehogs, take a look at our FAQs page. If you can’t find what you’re looking for you can email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
