That is so strange, I just wrote a reply to you and it seems to have disappeared! So, I’ll try again!
I wonder whether your new nest is a nest for babies. It seems unlikely that a hog would build such a comprehensive nest in this weather otherwise. It may also explain why ‘she’ is sleeping in the outer chamber. A male has recently taken to sleeping in my feed box and has only taken very minimal bedding in. If it is a nest for babies you will need to be very careful not to disturb them, because a Mother can desert her babies when they’re tiny if disturbed.
Fingers crossed for hoglets, sounds an ideal location for them!
