Well done giving the hog some water. Sometimes that’s all they need, but a hog out in the open in the sun is often a danger sign that they need help. If you are concerned about a hog out in the open any time during the day, you can ring BHPS on 01584 890801 and they can give you contact details of your nearest hog carers/rehabilitators who you can discuss the precise situation with.

Be careful that the hole hasn’t been made by a badger – badgers eat hedgehogs. I’m not sure about bay leaves, but it seems unlikely that a hog would eat them.
