Hi Kassie

I suspect they say deter birds because they might eat the seed. If it is just ordinary seed, not coated in anything, it wouldn’t do the birds any harm – some species eat grass seeds off the plant – but you might be left with bare patches if they eat it.

I don’t imagine that hogs would be too interested. But what is really important is that you don’t use any kind of netting which hogs could become tangled in. It can cause really bad injuries to hogs if they get tangled in it. i.e. they might wander over the area looking for worms.

If the seed is treated with chemicals, you might want to try to keep the hogs off the area.
