Hi Pricklesstreet

Yes, it is quite normal for hogs to change nests. But in the Summer they don’t normally block entrances unless they are females with young and they might also have vacated. Or if it was very hot and the youngsters had got quite big, mother hog might have nipped out without blocking the hole again. So you need to be careful in case anyone is still in there. But you might be lucky and some hoglets might turn up sometime!

Re. cleaning out hog houses please see: https://www.hedgehogstreet.org/cleaning-out-boxes/ If you are worried about infestations in a particular hog house, you could clean it out in between as long as you are 100% sure no-one is in residence at all (i.e. not just out for the night).
