Thanks Nic for this really useful reply. On most nights we see a hedgehog several times on our camera and intially assumed it was always the same one as there doesn’t seem to be any obvious size difference, but sometimes there are pale patches on their rump in different patterns on the same night. Initially I wondered if this was to do with the spines getting rubbed against something in between appearances and changing the appearance of the patches, but now I’m wondering if they are different animals. Do they have much difference in colouration like this?
