Anytime can be too late. This probable second lot of nestlings will hopefully get to 550/600gms before being able to get through the winter but any less than that, particularly in your area (more 600gms then!) would be better off being “rescued” and cared for during the colder months. They will not be able to build up enough brown fat stores to see them through, particularly because of the effects of climate change on the temperature swings. They think it’s ok to get up and have a sniff round for food (AND WATER!) more often than when we had a good, solid cold winter.
