A quiet secluded sheltered spot is likely to be popular. I put a hedgehog house under a large holly bush and another under a Mexican mock orange shrub – the year-round foliage provides some protection from rain and the cold wind. Both houses were used during the 2023/24 winter but not used at all last winter! I do clear away dropped dry holly leaves because of their sharp thorny edges – can’t be great for small paws!
Haha – the “disappearing hedgehog” problem! I know exactly what you mean: visible one second, not visible the next – leaving one baffled as to where they’ve gone. If I work out a solution I’ll let you know!
