‏Hi from Morocco! A month ago, we found a small hedgehog in the park. Its size was small near 15cm.The hedgehog was very hungry, so we took it to our garden to save it from stray dogs. Stray dogs in our park have attacked hedgehogs more than once. For about a month, it lived safely with us.

Four days ago, when the rains increased and the air temperature dropped to 4 °C at night and 15 °C during the day, I noticed that the hedgehog had become inactive. We did not see it in the garden, and it did not touch its food.

Yesterday, I found the hedgehog in an open area. It was lying curled up in a ball. For some reason, it was ignoring the shelter we had made for it and stayed out in the open. I moved it to a cardboard box with cloths and placed it in a shelter.

It should be understood that in Morocco, there is no central heating in houses, and even the indoor temperature in our home does not rise above 15 °C in January. The hedgehog remains in this dormant state or in hibernation. It weighs 154 grams. It is a very small hedgehog. Apparently, it has not had time to gain weight since it has been with us for only about a month. It has been eating beef and chicken.

Now it is in hibernation. I am worried that, because of its small weight, it might die. What should I do now?Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the group. This is too small to survive and it should have put on weight. You need to find a carer or vet who would be willing to look at it urgently
