I noticed some unusual droppings in my garden a few weeks ago and my cousin confirmed it was hedgehog poo. I immediately started putting food and water out and went from one visiting every couple of days to two visiting every night from 8pm to 5am. I am surprised as live in the busy part of our village but they come from the back away from the main road luckily and they cant get out of my property to the road. Last week I purchased a Hog house and within a day one was using it, in last few days both are in there each night. I feel so blessed but at the same time wondering how I can go about normal garden activities without disturbing them lol. I am buying another house to go next to the existing one to give them an option of having their own digs, the house is behind the only big bush I have next to a big fence, albeit still in a small busy garden. Its quiet as I dont have kids playing etc but I do have dogs so have used some dog pen fencing I had to barricade their house and a patio area they feed on/wander around so the dogs cant disturb them (I feel like the hogs are calling the shots lol). I have two questions. 1. When is the best time to put the second house in place? Worried I will disturb them during the day if I do it then when they are sleeping? 2. I am finding myself tip toeing around all the time 🤣 I usually jet wash my garden twice a year (middle is all paved) and I hose the stones daily, sweep and do DIY out there from time to time. They obviously feel safe as they spend hours an eve in my garden and sleep here during the day. The whole area surrounding me is a built up area and so maybe my garden is the quietest or most safe they feel that they have access to? I collected loads of dry leaves yesterday and put them down around the house and I got one of the hogs on video collecting some and taking them into the house which was so cute. I cant find a way of attaching it here though.
