North Devon Hedgehog Rescue saved from closure

21st December 2015

After raising over £2,500 in a Crowdfunder campaign, holiday letting agent holidaycottages.co.uk has saved a hedgehog rescue centre from closure.

In September, the holiday letting agency launched a campaign to help save the UK’s hedgehogs, following the release of shocking statistics about the population decline.

While researching for its hedgehog housing initiative, the team met Anni Nicholls, who runs North Devon Hedgehog Rescue. Anni has spent over eight years providing food, shelter and medical care to hedgehogs in North Devon and was faced with having to close the rescue due to a lack of funding.

Following a successful Crowdfunder campaign with overwhelming support from the local community, Anni is now building a hog hotel in at her home, which will provide shelter for up to 50 hedgehogs. The build is now well underway and Anni has already begun welcoming hedgehogs to her home in preparation for the opening of the new shelter. With the help of her volunteers, Anni will now be able to continue supporting these remarkable creatures.
