Register now for the 2014 Hibernation Survey!

28th January 2014

We need your help to submit hedgehog sightings from 1st February until 31st August 2014.

A study was conducted 40 years ago which suggested a link between climate and when hedgehogs come out of hibernation. We repeated this study in 2012 and 2013 and each year over two thousand people have logged around 45,000 hedgehogs across Britain. We need several years of data to get a reliable picture of what is happening, as variations in weather tend to add noise to long-term climatic trends.

We need to monitor hedgehogs if we want to understand how they behave and this information will help us to conserve these wonderful creatures more effectively in the future.

Simply register and then tell us every time you see a hedgehog, noting its location and whether it is alive or dead.

Let’s find out what these hedgehogs are up to!
