Great news three of my four hogs are already back – really pleased that the late baby is back although he is small and we are working on this – I was worried he would not come back as he was just over weight at last October but he’s back – looking forward to some baby hogs this year – fingers crossed!

Some of last year’s hoglets, here, are back, including one or two quite small ones. I am going to collect 2 of the overwintered ones tomorrow. One didn’t make it, but 2 is better than none.
Still waiting patiently for the girls to return.
Coolio – all good here – waiting patiently still for number four – the biggest – I’m going to put my nature camera out over the weekend to see if I’ve just missed the last one – so we have Doris-Noris and Boris back – still awaiting Horris.
Horris is back – baby coming every night really eating has put on loads of weight – the four of them are eating a huge plate of assorted hoggy goodies a night – all now have glossy spines – roll on the first baby shower…..
So glad hogs are back in my garden……. on the 10th April I brought back one of the two hogs I took to a rescue centre to over winter ( they were very small and cold when I found them on a cruel November eve ), sadly only the female survived. But the rescue centre asked me if I could also take a large male hog…….so both are happily enjoying life in my and my neighbours gardens.
Tonight I saw two unmarked hogs in the garden ( no I do not mark hogs but rescue centre had carefully marked the returning hogs so I could keep track of them for a while ). Looks like I am going to have fun noting who is who, and hoping for the patter of tiny hog feet.
Such a joy to have and help these lovely wild creatures…….also happy they seem to like the accommodation we built.

I’m glad to hear you have seen two unmarked hogs in your garden – they seem to be becoming a rarity these days. Good luck with the returning hogs.
Two of the girls are back here now. Slightly, looking shadows of their former selves, but are trying very hard to evade the boys for long enough to get some food now and then. The boys, who have been back for a while, and so have been able to put their weight back on already, are tearing around all over the place, biffing any other male they meet and trying to get the attention of the girls. The way things are going it looks as if there might be some early hoglets! Still waiting, with hope, for two more of the female ‘regulars’.

I am hoping that all the hogs do well……especially as the local rescue centre have asked if me and my garden, as it were, can accommodate more. Not everyone that takes a hog to a rescue centre wants it back !!!! If my lovely neighbours don’t object, if I can relocate a few more hogs here I will…….and yes they will be treated with the respect these wild creatures deserve.Hi Nic,
Good luck with the ‘ biffing ‘ hogs…….here’s to the patter of tiny feet.Well there was much circling (3hours worth) if I don’t get baby hogs it won’t be our males fault – the lady in question just sat on the middle of the food plate eating while all this attention played out – I was exhausted just watching so decided to give them some privicy and switched the back light off – 3 hours later they were still together but off the plate as the others had arrived for food too – role on summer and babies

They certainly do have a lot of patience!
Here, one of the girls kept one of the big boys waiting for a good fifteen minutes whilst she was eating, with him circling at a respectful distance, before they disappeared into the undergrowth. He obviously knew how to impress the girls, because their courtship ‘dance’ didn’t last very long after that, just, hopefully, hoglets arriving soon. Perhaps the younger boy hogs need to learn from him about how to court a lady!

I have just been watching a male hog desperately, though patiently, trying to get a female hog to pay attention to him……..all she wanted was the cat food I had put beneath the hedge. The male is an unmarked hog, sadly the female was wrong side on to me, so could not tell if she was one of the rescue hogs ! Of course I had forgotten to charge my camera…..lesson learned!!! So the biffing begins. I leave them to it and go for some sleep….you are right, it’s exhausting just watching them.
