Houses, food and water are definitely the Right Things! It can take a while before a new housing development is taken up by a hedgehog since they’re immensely fussy buyers but you can be sure that it’s a desirable property if one moves in.

The one thing I’d say is try and resist the temptation to look inside since it may put them off using it. Later in the year any disturbance like that can cause a mum to abandon her sprogs. You can tell if it’s in use by placing a twig or bits of hay across the entrance and see if they get moved.
