Hi gbhog
I’m guessing from what you say that you normally offer the hogs some food at night? So the hog would have had access to food at a normal time. Hopefully you are also providing access to water all day every day – that is very important. Hogs may be able to forage for food, but may not be able to access water. A dehydrated hog may also come out during the day.
If I were you, I would contact your local hog carer and you will be able to explain more fully to them. The problem is that hogs don’t appear to be unwell until they are really unwell. But there is also the possibility that a nursing mother might pop out briefly during the day. But your local carer will be able to advise as to the best course of action. You can get contact details of your local carers from the BHPS on 01584 890801.
I am, though, a bit concerned about the mealworms. Try to make certain that the hog cannot access them. Some hogs become addicted to them and so could be seeking them out.
Good luck.
