Hi all,
Just to update, I rang a local rescue place for advice too and they said to bring him in. It turns out he had been attacked by a dog and had puncture wounds with pus underneath. They wounds had scabbed over and weren’t noticable to an untrained eye (mine). They were going to give him a course of antibiotics. He was an old male. I haven’t heard anything further. Worringly, the other hedgehog has not come back. I am concerned something has happened to him too. We have a new dog in the neighbourhood just 3 doors down.

thank you to Stef and Jan-Marie for your replies.
