    Hello,

I have a couple of hedgehogs visiting the garden. They have just woken up in the last few days and both are coming to eat and drink during the day. I have seen them at 7.30 in the morning and just now at 5.45 in the evening. They are both eating and drinking well and do not appear injured. is this just stocking up and they will return to normal hours in a few days?

    Hi
I would definitely monitor for a while as it’s a bit too late in the morning and a bit too early in the evening. Are they doing this regularly or is this a one off? Are they coming out any time between?
I suggest you contact your local carer and have a chat

They will do this if they are very hungry – so probably as a result of just coming out of hibernation and having found a supply of available food I would suggest.
Likely to settle once their immediate hunger and thirst has settled, but keep an eye on it and keep supplying the food as they will be heavily reliant on it at this stage.

    Hi all,
Just to update, I rang a local rescue place for advice too and they said to bring him in. It turns out he had been attacked by a dog and had puncture wounds with pus underneath. They wounds had scabbed over and weren’t noticable to an untrained eye (mine). They were going to give him a course of antibiotics. He was an old male. I haven’t heard anything further. Worringly, the other hedgehog has not come back. I am concerned something has happened to him too. We have a new dog in the neighbourhood just 3 doors down.

thank you to Stef and Jan-Marie for your replies.

If I get any good news I will update you.

oh – poor boy! They don’t deserve that do they. Sounds like he’s in good hands now so fingers crossed for him and lets hope the other one reappears for a check as well then.
