A few weeks ago a little hedgehog appeared on my trail camera & every night now there’s hog activity in the garden. Some nights they eat from the feeder, others they explore the borders for worms, beetles etc & trundle off under the fence to forage in neighbouring gardens.

Wonderful to be so lucky having these amazing little animals here, all as a result of cutting a hedghog highway hole in my gate many years ago & providing good food & water to help them survive.

I have had a hedgehog return also and then 2 appeared last night! I caught them mating on my trail camera . I hope they use my hedgehog house which is stuffed with straw awaiting tenants! that would just make my day!

    Hi Annie

Sorry it’s been so long since I communicated! Glad to hear that the hogs were back there. I hope they’ve been coping alright with the terrible weather. My poor garden is in a very sad state! I haven’t had the cameras out for a while, but there is an interesting looking new trail to a hogilo which has been there quite a while. Not easy to see, but looks like some leaves inside.

The martins are back in their nests on the house and chirping cheerfully away and the sparrows are making good use of the bushes in the front garden. Also saw some gold finches feeding from the flower seed in the wild flower patch. It makes it all feel worthwhile to know that someone is making good use of it! Hopefully the hogs are, too, but it’s a bit rough for them this year. Poor things.

Good luck with the hogs there.

It’s good to hear you had hogs back there. I hope they’re doing ok. Any patter of tiny hoglet feet yet? Let us know if there are – it’s always lovely to hear about hoglets – well any hogs really! Any tenants in the hog house yet? If not you could try putting the ‘bedding’ outside, nearby. It varies a bit from hog to hog, but some are fussy and like to take the ‘bedding’ in themselves.

It would be lovely to hear how things are progressing.
Good luck and happy hog watching!
