Our hedgehogs seem to be pooing an incredible amount around their feeding area on our patio and in the garden, they also seem to have a bit of diarrhoea as some of it seems to be softer and squidgy and doesn’t try hard. Does that sound like hedgehog diarrhoea? We are just feeding hedgehog food, and sometimes the cats don’t eat their biscuits so the hedgehog will have those. We also only put out water so I can only assume they are eating something they shouldn’t be elsewhere. Is it normal for them to poo so much.

Hedgehogs have a fast gut transit time. So yes they poo a lot and it can be of varying consistency. What you don’t want to see is slimy green poo. However you may sometimes see a little bit of green in poo due to this fast transit but that’s not to worry about. Only if there is a lot of slimy poo then contact your nearest carer for a chat
