We have found a hedgehog which had dug under a shrub in our garden and stayed there for a week or so that we noticed, then as the weather warmed up 18/04/2018 it has gone. Do they return to the place where they have hibernated or do they find somewhere else on a regular basis when out at night.

You’ll hate this answer! It varies.

The hog houses in my garden are sometimes completely vacated in spring and sometimes not. Last year they left both but this year one of them has remained in situ and shows no sign of moving. He did a complete refresh a couple of weeks ago taking in new hay so I think he’s here to stay. The other house was vacated but is now back in use again and I have no idea if it’s the same hog.

They set their own rules on this one, usually carefully planned to conflict with any plans you may have yourself.
