Does she (He) have hoglets ?
-
Hi there, first post so be kind ….. We are lucky enough to have a hedgehog that has set up home under our rabbit hutch in a very dry and cosy location. We think one hibernated there and there was plenty of activity around the spot once they woke up. We now have one hedgehog (Patch) who returns to the spot every night just before dawn and we see waking from there each evening.
We have a trail camera and have monitored the evening activity for a couple of months now.
The question is this – We now see Patch waking at a regular time, going straight to the food bowl, having a good feed before returning to the “nest” for about an hour. This repeats a couple of times through the night. Previously we would see her (he) go off wandering for several hours before returning. Is this an indication that Patch may in fact be a She and may have some babies that she is caring for?
Obviously we cannot simply look under the hutch for fear of disturbing her (him) 🙂
Thoughts welcomed
Kind regards ….. excited Hedgehogwatch in Sheffield ….
