We have had hedgehogs for quite a few years now, have found a few to be in need of help during the years which we have taken to a rescue centre but this latest one has me puzzled. For almost a week now it has been coming to the feeding station around 5pm ,spending sometimes over an hour in there but when I check , there has hardly been any food touched. I wondered if it had a problem with eating so tonight I decided to crush some of the food and dampen it with water and it ate it . I followed it around the garden afterwards and it found somewhere in the shrubbery to curl up and settle. It seems to be walking ok, is it just out for an early meal then going back to bed I wonder.

    Hi Granny7

If I were you, I would contact your nearest carer and take their advice. It does sound odd to me that the hog didn’t eat the normal food and 5 does seem early at this time of year. If the hog isn’t able to eat normally, it may be malnourished.

If you can’t contact your usual hog carer/rehabilitator, you can get contact details of others by ringing 01584 89080.

Good luck. Let us know how the hog gets on.
