Easy hog hole solutions for fences, etc.?

I’m starting a hedgehog project in my local suburban village. I think we’ll get much better uptake for making hedgehog highways if we could offer ready-to-go solutions for common hole types, especially existing wooden fences with wooden gravel boards. Just cutting a 13-cm hole in wooden fenceboards or a baseboard will weaken them considerably, and most people wouldn’t want that. Some sort of reinforcement would make it a lot more strong and durable, but would the average householder want to go to the trouble of buying a pair of commercial hedgehog gate arch plates at £10+, or knock up their own? I’m wondering if any hedgehog champions have come up with a cheap supply of hole reinforcers which they give to neighbours or fit for free?
