A small, juvenile hedgehog not seen before turned up in our garden a couple of weeks ago (and, coincidentally, our adult visitors have not been seen since). Anyway young hog looks a good size, eats and drinks well and we think might have made a home in our garden. So far so good, but it is scratching excessively, we believe, every few seconds or so in the same place. More than we have seen with other hogs. We have tried to get some advice from a local Rescue centre, constant answerphone, and no response from messages left. We are concerned it will go into hibernation with whatever is the problem – flea infestation possibly. Has anyone got any advice please? We are willing to treat it ourselves if possible but not without knowing what is wrong. Thanks
