Found Mr Snout dead

So upset..
He was found in a neighbours garden, they came and told me as all the neighbours are v. enthusiastic..
I know there are other hogs around as I have seen them in the garden.. but Mr Snout used to come out first.. I think the others have gone elsewhere as well as food not touched for 4 days.
So sad.

So sorry to hear about Mr. Snout. So sad. I know how much we all become attached to our prickly friends and how upsetting it is when something like this happens.

I know it is a difficult thing to think about but you might want to consider reporting his death.

that way it might help other hogs. Likewise entering his death on the Big Hedgehog Map

helps to give a better understanding of what is happening to hogs, country wide. I know when I have found dead hedgehogs it is something I have done, as a sort of memorial to the hog and to make it count for something, even in death.

There may be other explanations for the others not coming for the food. (We have the problem every year on Hedgehog Street of disappearing hedgehogs). For example, the males have larger range than the females, so may not visit one particular place every night and the females may be off having hoglets. Also an obstacle may have appeared in their route to your garden, which they may take a bit of time to find way round, or someone else may have started feeding nearer where they are currently spending the day. So don’t give up on them just yet – fingers crossed it’s hoglet related.
