Hedgehog and rats!
-
Well, I put a camera in front of the hedgehog nesting box at the end of my garden, and was very happy to see a large female leave the box during the night. All seemed perfect as last year we were lucky enough to have 6 lovely baby hedgehogs born and raised in it. However, I was somewhat alarmed to spot a rat checking out the house while the hedgehog was out last night. It was in and out a few times. Sadly, I also didn’t see the hedgehog come back.
I really need to get rid of that rat! Any ideas?
thanks,
I too had the same problem last year,I bought a couple of VERY STRONG RAT TRAPS OFF AMAZON,and set them out so only they were able to access it,so no harm would come to the visiting hedgrhogs.I successfully eradicated the problem over several nights.Traps were baited with cheese and peanut butter.wear HEAVY GLOVES WHEN DISPOSING OF THE RAT/S. PS TAKE CARE WHEN SETTING THE TRAPS,THEY ARE THAT HIGHLY SPRUNG,YOU COULD LOSE FINGERS!. ( RATKIL 2 TRAPS,£22.99 ON AMAZON). GOOD LUCK.
How do you stop the hedgehog accidentally getting caught please? We have fen traps – and have successfully caught rats. The hedgehog is new to our garden.
