Hedgehog blocking entrance to house
-
I currently have a hedgehog nesting in a hedgehog house I bought a few months ago (the igloo style wicker ones). However recently the entrance to the house has been blocked up with straw bedding and mud. Is this something that hedgehogs usually do around the time they hibernate? I am slightly concerned as I’ve recently noticed a rat coming into the garden and ‘sharing’ the hedgehog food I put out, and wonder if it is the work of said rat. Can anyone advise please?
Hi Freshprince89
Couldn’t be 100% certain, but it sounds more like a hedgehog. I wouldn’t have thought a rat would bother to shut the door behind it, whereas a hog would be likely to, especially if it’s planning on hibernating in there. A rat would be going in and out.
