    Hi Hoglips, Nic,

I have to say that I am completely mystified as to what is being used to mark our hogs. I spotted one of them for the first time last night in the flesh and the stripe showed up as a dark line from the light of the torch but glows bright white on the trail cameras. I just hope that it is nothing toxic!

    Hi Penny

That’s the worrying thing. If these substances have these strange effects in different light it seems possible they could be something toxic. Doesn’t look like water based substance. And why so much of it. More wouldn’t make it easier to identify them. You mentioned before that one of your hog visitors was scratching a lot and I noticed that a hog here who had been newly marked was also scratching a lot, so it could be an irritant as well. I just feel so sorry for the poor hogs. Life is hard enough for them already.

What is so strange is that it seems to be happening in different places in the country. What gets into so many seemingly unconnected people thinking it’s ok to do that to hogs.
