I have about 3 or 4 hedgehogs visit my garden every single night. I have a hedgehog feeding station and a hedgehog house for them to sleep in. I put out hedgehog food and a bowl of water for them. I also have a camera trap to monitor them and see them coming in and out of our garden. But the other day (3rd June) I was checking my wildlife camera and I noticed one hedgehog was out at 5pm (June 2026) looking for food. It didn’t look injured or didn’t look any different from when it comes in our garden during the night. Should I be concerned and monitor it for the next few days. It did come back again that evening.

Hi, I’ve read that a hedgehog out during the day might be an expectant female nest building or one with hoglets leaving the nest to grab food quickly, and if they are moving with purpose and don’t seem injured or lethargic it shouldn’t be cause for concern.

Have you seen them during the day since then?
