I volunteer for a hedgehog rescue charity. We keep comprehensive statistics to enable us to monitor rehabilitation success rates, trends and other issues. This year we’ve seen a large number of hogs malnourished and having large internal parasite burdens. Many of these have not survived. We suspect this may be due to the late cold spell in March and the effect this has had on insect numbers. Anecdotally the lack of insects has been mentioned on programmes such as Springwatch. Have any other rescuers had a similar experience?
