One of my hedgehogs ate an ill juvenile goldfinch last night – I saw it on camera, I had no idea they ate such things!!!

    Hi Puffinpen

Yes, hedgehogs are opportunists and will on occasion eat young birds, if they happen upon them. I had one here one night. It was quite early and I heard a lot of noise and thought something was attacking the hedgehogs, but it turned out to be a hedgehog who had just killed the young bird. It was too young to have been out of it’s nest so probably wouldn’t have survived. Not a nice thing to hear and probably not a nice thing to see on video, either, I imagine.
