Hi everyone. One of this year’s hoglets has started rubbing its chin on the ground/walking with it’s chin pressed down into the ground. It doesn’t look quite right. It is also coughing sometimes. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be the problem, please, and what if anything we should do? We have video if that is helpful. Thanks!

    Hi LizSanders

The coughing sounds worrying and could be a problem. I would contact a carer about that and take their advice.

Re. the chin rubbing, they do sometimes do that. Various suggestions have been made as to why (and whether it is sometimes whole body dipping which might look like chin rubbing) – i.e. possible scent marking. In isolation that doesn’t seem such a problem, but could possibly be connected to the coughing problem so please check with your nearest hedgehog carer/rehabilitator.

You can get contact details of your nearest hedgehog carer/rehabilitator by ringing BHPS on 01584 890801.

    Good luck

Thank you very much – apologies for not responding earlier, but that’s much appreciated. L
