My mum is getting me some hedgehog stuff for Christmas, including a small round microwaveable heatpad – which is for small animals, and can be used outside as you can clean it as it’s hard plastic.

I have an idea, on cold freezing nights where the water will definately freeze, I could put the heatpad underneath the feeding station, and put the bowl of water bowl on top of it.

So the hogs won’t be stepping on the heatpad, but the warmth should come up through the plastic.

It stays warm for 8 hours, so the water might freeze eventually, but at least for most of the night, it should be okay.

What do you think? Is this a good idea, or a ridiculous idea?

    Hi Hedgie Lover

As long as it isn’t somewhere where any animal can get too hot on it, it sounds a good idea. I think I would make sure to use a large water bowl/saucer that completely covers the heated area and not make it so hot that it makes the water warm. Presumably you can just put it in the microwave a shorter time to make it less hot. Maybe a bit of trial and error. Sounds worth a try, though.
