I have just heard a lot of huffing and I think that I have seen two hedgehogs mating! If this mating has been successful, how long will it be before I see hoglets?

    Hi Prof

I like your optimism! The gestation period is usually thought to be 4.5 to 5 weeks, although it can be variable. However, you might like to read:

Good luck – I hope some hoglets do appear soon, although apparently they don’t usually leave the nest until they are 3 to 4 weeks old.

Hello Nic, It looks as though I’m in for a long wait! Thank you for the link to the interesting if rather scholarly article about hedgehogs. I’ll try to keep optimistic!
