I have several hedgehogs visiting the feeding station, always at least one every night. I have a feeding station from Riverside woodcraft with tunnels to prevent cats (which was previously an issue). Now I have mice and voles treating it as their personal diner. One or two wasn’t a problem at all but now they can clean up all the kibble before the hogs get a look in. The resulting population explosion is also a problem for my plants! I have added specially made Perspex hog flaps to the tunnels. They swing freely but after two nights the hogs still haven’t figured them out. The mice, on the other hand, appear to have! I am worried that I will now be deterring the hogs. How long do I give it? It’s hard to watch the videos seeing them try and fail. Any other suggestions? Many thanks.

Sorry I can’t help – I actually have a similar problem. Last night for the first time an enormous rat spent a good two hours back-and-forth eating the food. At one stage even coming back and sharing the bowl with the hedgehog . My food tray is just out in the open I really think I can’t leave the food out anymore. I don’t know what to do for the best. Can anyone help please?

Have put h’hog house in garden after seeing two after many years of none. Coaxed one into it by putting food in entrance tunnel. H’hog ate most of it. Next night I put in the house and again most was eaten- a mixture of dog meat from tin, plus tiny biscuits and few Calci worms. Half boiled egg one night and dried fly mix.
On 3rd night it buried itself in hay and no sign of it on next night. But last night it actually moved feeding bowl to entrance as if it wanted it to be removed. I did not disturb it on day after it hid in hay in case it was still in box. Last night it again buried itself in hay. Seems healthy, but at a loss to try and explain it’s actions! I put dish of fresh water in tiny bowl outside, near entrance every night.
    Any views welcomed.

More than 40% meat dog/cat plus the meaty kitten biscuits (no rice or veg.) are the only things recommended. Plus water, of course!
