We have a hog house in our garden that is definitely occupied. Last night we saw the hog come out of the house go to our feeding station and then return to the house. It did this several times. We wondered whetherhedgehogs store food, for the nursing period for example?

    Hi philt

Good question, but no they don’t store food, not like, for instance, mice do. Some hogs do tend to visit feeding stations multiple times per night, so that is quite normal behaviour. Maybe it was just going back to the hog house for a nap between snacks.

Having said that, in a way they do store food, but as body fat – for hibernation. Prior to hibernation they put on two types of fat they need to survive through that period.
