Only two weeks left for the Petition calling for DEFRA to withdraw UK approval for the trap which is used in New Zealand to kill hedgehogs.

Nearly 65,000 more signatures are needed to have this debated in Parliament.

PLEASE fellow Hedgehog Champions, ask everyone you know to sign the Petition and pass the message on. The hedgehogs have enough hazards to deal with without this. They would all sign if they could, but they need your help.

    THIS IS URGENT.

Some of you may be interested to know that the question of the trap was discussed on Daily Politics (BBC) today. Towards the end of the programme if anyone wants to watch it on iplayer.

The adaptation they talk about, which is supposed to stop hedgehogs accessing the trap, is an optional extra for which extra has to be paid. There is no obligation on any purchaser to buy it with the trap. The tunnels in themselves are a death trap as hedgehogs can get in but cannot reverse out – being caught by their spines. This trap, which re-sets itself is designed to be left in place for long periods of time, so that any hedgehog caught in the tunnel would probably die anyway.

The following is a :quote from BHPS:
‘In November 2017, we wrote to the UK distributers of the trap (GoodNature UK). We offered to help develop a more effective tunnel and suggested that once a suitable tunnel had been designed it should be fit as standard to ensure hedgehogs are not under threat from the trap. To date we have received no reply.’

PLEASE HELP SAVE THE HOGS FROM BEING CAUGHT IN ONE OF THESE TRAPS. ASK EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO SIGN THE PETITION.
