Your hedgehogs need you

24th April 2019

Spring is here, and hedgehogs are exploring your gardens. Now is a perfect time to step up help and support of hogs where you live.

Hedgehogs thrive when the whole community looks out for them. The best single thing any street, town or village can do is link everyone’s gardens together with a hedgehog highway.

Our spiky friends love to have a choice of gardens, and need lots of space to roam each day. Making a hole in your fence is fantastic – but it’s even better if everyone on your street does the same thing.

Help hedgehogs by getting your neighbours involved too.

Our Hedgehog Champions have done an incredible job over the last year. There are now more than 60,000 people registered as Champions, and many of them have been spreading the word up and down the country.

We’d love you to give a talk at your local school, community event, workplace or village hall about how everyone can pitch in and help hogs.

Hedgehog Street encourages people to link their gardens – Hedgehog Highways

A free presentation is available – all you need to do is download it.

The presentation covers all the key aspects of hedgehog biology, behaviour, the threats they face and the things everybody can do to help them.

It also includes notes for you, so there is no need to do extra research.

  1. Download the talk by logging into ‘My Hedgehog Street’ using your Hedgehog Champion username and password. If you don’t have one of these, then registration is simple.
  2. Then, download the presentation. When you open the talk, you will be prompted for a password. Enter: dayofthehedgehog
  3. Please give the talk in the order we have suggested, but feel free to shorten it if you need to.

Good luck! Please let us know how you got on and send us pictures. Email Hedgehog@ptes.org. Together, we can help hedgehogs flourish.
