Summer Champions

We’ve been delighted to see all the wonderful things you, our Hedgehog Champions, have spent the summer doing to help hedgehogs. Thank you to everyone who has taken action, whether providing water, installing a hedgehog highway or fundraising. Here are a few of our favourites.
Peter H aka The Bowl Man put out water for wildlife throughout the entire summer. Each day during the drought he would top up five bowls around his local village using a trolley to carry the water. What dedication to hydration!
Poppy and Lucy raised £62.34 for Hedgehog Street by running a ‘Save the Hedgehogs’ stall at their school summer fete. They had two games at the stall – guess the weight of the hedgehog cake and find the hedgehogs!
David D had three hoglets visiting his garden over the summer so he created his own poster to put up round his local area. We love the Beatles-esque picture.
Jenny H’s wellbeing group raised an amazing £440.25 for Hedgehog Street by undertaking a sponsored walk and a community litter pick. The group attended Wiltshire Council’s 10-week Walk and Talk for Wellbeing course.
Laura A found a hedgehog out in the open of her garden at 2pm and took it to the vet. Luckily it had a clean bill of health and was returned to the garden to be met with a lovely new house built by Laura. She has continued to put out food and water since its return.
82-years-old Peter S has created a hedgehog area at the bottom of his garden. He has made two hedgehog highways and built five hedgehog houses. He also has a “24/7 café” with food and water dispensers for the hungry hogs. Peter’s local hedgehogs are very lucky!
Zac U created his own poster and baked some cakes to take round his neighbour’s houses, along with copies of our Top Tips leaflet. From selling his cakes he managed to raise £83.35 for BHPS!
Graham N put a note through each of his neighbour’s doors on his street offering to help make hedgehog highway holes, with the aim of getting all the gardens linked. He included a copy of our Top Tips leaflet with each note.
Seb B raised £360.45 for Hedgehog Street by donating his old campervan to Giveacar. This not-for-profit social enterprise can take your unwanted car and turn it into cash for any UK charity. Thank you Seb!
